10/09/2002

GAME, UK’s leading retailer of computer and video games is pleased to announce that over £20,000 has been raised by auctioning off life-size ORC standees used for the promotion of Vivendi Universal Games Warcraft III game.

100 GAME stores throughout the country have taken part in the auction and the proceeds have been donated to The Entertainment Software Charity (ESC). ESC, the official charity of the UK computer games industry, works to raise money to provide financial benefit to youth charities throughout the UK. GAME helps support ESC and decided to use the popularity of the Warcraft III game and the public interest in the ORC promotional standees, to raise funds for the worthy cause.

John Steinbrecher, Chief Executive Officer of GAME said; “We’re delighted to have been able to raise this money for charity and we’d like to see other companies in our industry follow with similar fund raising initiatives. He added, “We would also like to thank Vivendi Universal Games for allowing us to auction off their ORC standees; without their support this fundraising wouldn’t have been possible, it really has been a hugely successful joint effort.”

Brynn Gilmore, CEO of ESC said; “GAME has been an excellent supporter of ESC, and we are really pleased by the amount that has been raised. Our expectations have been exceeded and as a result of this, various youth charities around the country will benefit. He added; “This is a great example of how much interest there is in computer games and how point of sale material can be utilised for fund raising.”
