"Bargain Idol" debuts in UK

01/04/2004

A revolutionary new scheme that allows shoppers to vote their favourite products into a cut price Sale is to be introduced to the UK.

In a global first, Europe’s largest specialist video games retailer GAME is offering customers the opportunity to vote every day throughout April for a favourite special offer. The promotion will be branded ‘Deal of the Day’, on the Company’s e-commerce website, www.GAME.net.

Three new deals will be offered daily, and the product with the most votes each night will be available on GAME.net the following day, at a new reduced price.

The nationwide vote, dubbed “Bargain Idol”, is very different from other sales which are traditionally used by retailers to shift old or unwanted stock.

Instead GAME.net will offer customers the opportunity to vote in a variety of new release games and DVD films, as well as some bestsellers across all formats. Each one will be ready to go on Sale the next day for a maximum of 12 hours at a massively reduced price.

GAME.net New Media Director Dave Evans said, “In the UK it seems we all love to vote – as long as it’s got nothing to do with politics!”

“Until now all of the nationwide voting schemes have been enjoyable but have had little direct impact on people’s lives. Finding a new pop star never saved anyone any money.”

“We’re giving people the chance to vote for their favourite product to go on Sale - and they’ll be able to buy it the very next day. We hope to save our customers a fortune with our unique promotion.”

This is the third themed instalment of GAME.net’s popular Deal of the Day series – though this is the first to include interactive voting. Previous campaigns in July ‘03 (the 24x7 campaign, to mark internet shopping day), and in October ’03 (a 24 hour Halloween bonanza), generated a huge public response.
