GAME surges past 500 stores
26/04/2004
Europe’s favourite games retailer, GAME, is hailing its massive pre-Easter store opening programme as a “great success.”
Under the initiative - which has seen the chain opening as many as 4 stores a week in the last two months - GAME has passed the 500th store mark across Europe, and is looking to reach 600 within the next year.
Three significant store openings in Denmark, Spain and England helped the business reach a total of over 515 stores in 6 countries this week.
Key new sites opened in the flagship Fields complex in Copenhagen on 9 March, M40 Madrid on 22 April, and Islington on 23 April.
The Group has successfully opened over 20 stores in the UK & Eire since February this year, with locations including Finchley, Folkestone, Skegness, Dorchester, Cumbernauld, Cirencester and Galway.
GAME’s dramatic expansion is also being boosted by the strategic purchase of 17 sites from the administrators of Sanity in the UK. All of the stores are expected to be trading as GAME stores by the end of April 2004.
Martin Long, Group Chief Executive said “I’m delighted to announce that our store opening programme throughout Europe is on track and has been a great success. I feel confident that we will reach 600 by the end of the year. 2004 will be a record year for new store openings.”
“We will have over 400 outlets trading in the UK & Eire in preparation for the Christmas period, where the current software line up looks to be even stronger than last year.”
Stores opening in the next two months will include Queensway (Bayswater), Haverford West and South Shields.
