New Property Director for GAME

15/06/2004

With a chain of over 500 stores across the UK and Europe, GAME today announces the appointment of Nick Martel as its Property Director.

Nick has over 15 years experience within the retail and commercial property sectors, and has previously worked for GAP (both in the UK and most recently in the US as Vice President, Real Estate Strategy, leading the property strategy for the Group, and responsible for a team of 35). Nick also worked for Specsavers Opticians and the Knight Frank real estate consultancy.

GAME’s property portfolio is growing fast. Already Europe’s largest specialist videogames retailer, over 100 stores will be opened within a year, giving the Group over 600 stores.

Throughout 2003 GAME unveiled a number of property initiatives to further cement its market leading position in the UK and Ireland. These included opening Outlet branded stores, the first City of London store, as well as stores in seaside and market towns, and out of town retail parks.

The expansion has continued, with the Company opening 27 stores since the beginning of 2004. Towns have included Huntingdon, Finchley, Skegness, Dorchester and two Outlet stores in Antrim and Spalding.

Nick will continue to drive forward the objectives for the UK and Ireland store chain, whilst working closely with Marc Spence, MD Europe, to develop and accelerate the European store expansion programme still further.

Martin Long, Group Chief Executive said “Nick joins GAME at a time of great expansion. We’re rapidly growing our property portfolio in the UK and Europe, to ensure that we benefit from new technology coming into the video games market.”

“Opening and operating stores in prime locations provides us with an excellent foundation with which to pursue the growth opportunities. Nick’s experience will be invaluable and I look forward to Nick working with our team at GAME.”
