GAME pioneers first “finishing school” for staff

18/06/2004

GAME has launched a tailored Deputy Manager “finishing school” for store based staff.

Around 50 Deputy Managers per year will be selected for the scheme, which lasts around five weeks for each individual.

The school aims to develop staff personal and business related skills, including situational leadership, performance management, target setting and team working.

Each Deputy Manager will have a District Development Manager assigned as a mentor, and weekly review meetings will be conducted with both staff to assess progress. In addition, Deputy Managers will spend a few days in a new store, so that they can gain a wider understanding of the GAME store network.

The ultimate objective of the programme is to ensure that staff are fully prepared and already possess the necessary skills when a Store Manager vacancy is available to them.

Suresh Banarse, Training and Recruitment Manager said “Launching this initiative is just a part of GAME’s training and development plan for our store staff.

“In 2004 and beyond, we’ll be working harder than ever to develop and implement tailored training and development plans for Regional Managers, District Development Managers, Store and Deputy Store Managers, as well as other store staff.

“Just last week (1 June), GAME relocated our Distribution Centre and Head Office to a purpose-built facility in Basingstoke, Hampshire. The result of this investment is to allow the Group to grow even faster. Just as important is to serve our staff and our customers better.

“Our training and development plans are tied up with this conviction.”
