2nd issue of ‘The GAME Mag’ to be bigger and better
16/07/2004
After the phenomenal success of the first issue of GAME’s own brand in-store magazine produced in partnership with Future Plus, the customer publishing and creative solutions arm of Future Publishing the retailer is sending the second edition of The GAME Mag to all 380+ stores, with more pages per issue and thousands more copies.
Launching over the next few days (mid-July), and still with a £1.99 cover price, the magazine will have 132 pages (32 more than issue 1), and will contain more features and more news, as well its first letters page. GAME will be printing around 90,000 copies, a 40% increase on the last issue, which sold out within the first month. Issue 2 will also feature a pre-order page, where readers can tick which upcoming releases they wish to pre-order, and hand this page over to a GAME staff member.
Features this edition will focus on: driving games (looking ahead at the likes of GT4, The Getaway 2 and Colin McRae 5 and including tips for readers to get the most from driving games); handheld console technology (including the Sony PSP, Nintendo DS and NGage QD); and finally the rise in popularity of military video games.
In addition, the issue will have several advertorials for the first time, from Vodafone, Hybrid Labs and the GameStars Live consumer event, to be held at ExCel in September.
The content and style of the second edition will have a more contemporary feel – the design has been tweaked and the magazine’s personality has developed further, to appeal to the core 20-35 age group.
Anna Macario, Marketing Director at GAME said “We couldn’t have wished for a more successful launch for the first issue of The GAME Mag, which sold out in one month! We’re increasing the print run of issue 2 to meet customer demand.”
“The magazine now has a more modern look, and we have introduced advertorials for the first time, with Vodafone’s being one example. We’re looking for other third party brands to get in touch with us, so we can improve the appeal and reach of the magazine still further.”
Karl Johns, National Account Manager at Sega said “Once again GAME have been the market leader in bringing something new and innovative to their consumer. The GAME Mag is a superb proposition, one that offers their customer base a very targeted, clear and concise way of reading more about the current and indeed the future games within our industry."
Steve Cunningham, Senior Regional Manager at GAME said “The amount of positive feedback from our store staff has been absolutely fantastic. For a first issue of a paid for magazine, it had a very strong identity and our customers certainly thought so, because it sold out so quickly. Our staff really got behind the launch, and can’t wait to see how issue 2 has improved.”
