GAME opens at midnight for Grand Theft Auto launch

28/10/2004

GAME, Europe’s favourite video games chain, will be opening over 140 of its stores at midnight on 29 October 2004 to launch the arrival of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas*. By opening at midnight, the 380+ strong retail chain will be giving customers who have pre-ordered the game the opportunity to be the first gamers to play.

San Andreas is available for the PlayStation 2 (PS2) only and is also the sequel to one of the most successful games ever, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The game is the third instalment of the series to be launched on the PS2, and customers have waited for two years for its arrival. Sony’s PlayStation 2 is being re-launched and re-packaged nationwide this Friday (29 October) as the PSTwo, a slimmer and smaller version of the console, still for £104.99.

Robert Quinn, Sales Director at GAME, said “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be one of the most successful games launched in 2004. The game has been hotly anticipated by thousands of adult customers who have reserved this game for weeks in advance. We’re working flat out to make sure customers get the games they want first.”

GAME will continue to accept deposit (£3) pre-orders** until each store closes on the Thursday evening. For more details on the launch night, as well as GAME policies, information on all consoles including the PS2, GameBoy Advance SP, Xbox, GameCube, and all the latest software and accessories, speak to a member of staff in-store.

* Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is rated strictly 18 by the Video Standards Council and the British Board of Film Classification.
** subject to availability.
