Hundreds expected at Oxford Street launch party

GAME, Europe’s largest video games retailer, will open 250 stores in the UK at midnight on 1st September to launch the new Sony Playstation Portable (PSP).

Queues are expected to form early on 31st August as customers clamour to be first to own one of the new ‘must have’ handheld machines.

GAME’s flagship store in Oxford Street will officially lead the Europe wide celebrations. A champagne reception, music and pyrotechnics will build the atmosphere before the dramatic launch at midnight.

The PSP has already been launched to huge excited crowds in Japan and the USA.

GAME stores in major towns and cities will be holding their own midnight launch parties, with 1,500 GAME employees working through the night to cope with demand.

Robert Quinn, GAME Sales Director said “This is a huge event in the history of video games, and we’re very excited about the launch. Our customers can’t wait to get hold of a PSP. We’ll be working round the clock to make sure customers get one as quickly as possible. Over half of our stores will be open at midnight – that’s one in almost every major town and city in the UK.”

“Since the massive launches in Japan and the USA, we’ve been planning for the PSP to arrive in Europe. It’s been billed by magazines and surveys as THE present this Christmas, and the excitement among our customers is reaching fever pitch as the last few days approach.”
