GAME saves money through developing in-house talent
26/01/2007
GAME, Europe’s leading specialist games retailer has successfully saved themselves over £14,000 since the launch of their Excellence in Leadership training programme in August 2006. The scheme looks to prepare selected District Development Managers (DDM’s) to become future Regional Managers, therefore eliminating both the financial and time costs associated with external recruitment.
In recent years recruitment fees have been soaring to around £7,000 per person, not to mention the time demands required for interviewing and assessment centres. The Excellence in Leadership scheme was launched in an attempt to reduce these costs and to produce the best future Regional Managers possible from within the business.
The 2006 program has already seen success for two of the DDM’s for Wales and Central and East London respectively, therefore saving the company thousands of pounds in agency fees and associated costs.
Around eight DDM’s are selected for the scheme, which lasts between 12 – 18 months for each individual. They undertake a wide variety of tasks such as employee relations, networking at Head Office and specific projects to get them thinking like a Regional Manager. It also develops their personal and business related skills, including situational leadership, performance management, target setting and team working.
Suresh Banarse, Head of Training and Recruitment said, “Since launching the scheme we have seen it go from strength to strength and it has made a real positive impact in boosting morale and motivation within our DDM’s. By recruiting internally, in addition to reducing costs, it also means that staff are already equipped with a thorough understanding of the business and it gives them something to aim for in the long term.”
